ImageNASHVILLE , Tenn. (AP) Wesley Woodyard misses putting milk in his cereal, and try as he might, the Tennessee Titans linebacker still reaches for a strip of bacon here and there.

Giving up meat hasn’t been easy, but in a league where everyone is looking for an edge, Woodyard and the Titans think they’ve found one in the produce aisle.

Woodyard and at least 10 teammates – mostly on defense – have opted to eat vegan diets this season. Football players have long had a carnivorous reputation, but Tennessee’s defenders say they feel energized by their nutrition adjustment, something that’s helped the unit rank third against the run and fifth in the league with 40 sacks.

Article continues below ...
Woodyard is in his 10th NFL season, and usually by this time of year, he’s taking daily naps to combat late-season fatigue. Not so much since going to a plant-based diet.

”My energy level’s gone up,” the Titans’ leading tackler said. ”And it’s just putting in good fuel to your body. And of course , it’s always hard to keep weight on this time of the season. But it’s worth it for me staying on top of my health.”

Linebacker Derrick Morgan sparked the move away from meat. He and his wife – Cordon Bleu-trained chef Charity Morgan – had gone vegan for stretches, and when Morgan’s nutritionist advised him 10 months ago that veganism could help maximize his athleticism, he decided to give up meat and dairy entirely.

”He knew that dairy always didn’t agree with his body because he would have reactions when he ate it,” Charity Morgan said. ”He never thought about meat. The human brain, we’ve been taught, `Oh, we need meat. It’s protein, protein, protein.’ We both had to re-educate ourselves on what is protein.”

Having a trained chef in the house eased the transition. Charity Morgan studied plant-based meals online and began preparing dishes for her husband. By the time training camp opened, Charity Morgan was also feeding defensive lineman Jurrell Casey , a three-time Pro Bowl selection, and defensive end DaQuan Jones. Her client list grew as more teammates smelled what she had cooking.

”I broke down, tasted it, and I’ve been in ever since,” Woodyard said. ”It’s good. You start off just trying to get rid of certain things. I’ve always wanted to give up red meat. Once I got the chance to get into the vegan diet, it’s kind of like you trick your mind to eat other things, and you get used to it.”

Charity Morgan is now feeding 11 Titans – and sometimes a few wives – with more on a waiting list. She’s also dished advice to other wives about handling vegan dinners at home. Favorites have included vegan crabcakes and pea protein burgers with Charity Morgan’s own take on In-n-Out’s special sauce. The chef delivers a pair of coolers packed with food each day for practice, and she even provides breakfast burritos on game days at home.

The Titans are 8-6 and the defense ranks 13th overall in the league. With results on the field holding strong, there hasn’t been any concern about the diet from coaches or team officials.

”No, guys are still performing , guys are taking care of business,” Casey said. ”So until that falls off, then you don’t have nothing to worry about.”

Some players have found they can’t quite do vegan full-time. Jones gives himself a cheat meal of chicken once a week for the protein boost, and Casey still eats fish.

Linebacker Brian Orakpo isn’t ready for a lifestyle change, but he was a fan of the lunch Charity Morgan left for him after a recent practice. A handful of Titans even gathered for a vegan Thanksgiving meal at the Morgans in November.

Vegans or vegetarianism isn’t unheard of in the NFL. Detroit running back Ameer Abdullah switched last summer to help prolong his career – a move made easier with both his parents being vegetarian.

”It actually helps you build up a faster metabolism,” Abdullah said. ”A lot of the food is cleaner, so there’s not a lot of the gunk that there is in processed foods. You burn through it quicker, but I eat more. That’s been a positive for me for sure.”

Washington left tackle Trent Williams stuck to a vegan diet through training camp this year after studying the links between diet and disease. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman had to stop when he dropped to around 300 pounds, somewhere he hadn’t been since his freshman year of high school. He loved how much better he slept , but he had to gain that weight back to help his center of gravity.

”The only bad thing was I couldn’t maintain my weight,” Williams said.

The biggest issue for Tennessee is taste. Casey is still on the fence there, and grateful to have Charity Morgan jazzing up his meat substitutes.

”Once you get all the sauce and the seasoning off of it, the texture of the meat or the substance that’s supposed to replace it, the flavor of that is horrible,” Casey said.

For now, though, it’s tackles over tastebuds in Tennessee.

ImageNASHVILLE Authentic Brent Burns Jersey , Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Titans know everything they did wrong on their way to an embarrassing performance.

It’s good they know what they have to correct, but the Titans did nothing to improve the reputation of a franchise not even two seasons removed from the NFL’s worst record.

Now their challenge is quickly fixing mistakes from a 40-17 loss to Pittsburgh .

Article continues below ...
Maybe then, the Titans will be ready the next time they have an opportunity to prove they belong on the league’s big stage as they chase the AFC South title with six games left.

”I think that was good for our team last night, to be in that environment against a team that’s a perennial playoff team,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said Friday. ”To know that we can play with them and we can beat them in their place if we don’t turn the ball over four times and make the plays that are there when they’re there.”

Marcus Mariota had the worst game of his young career with four interceptions by a quarterback who had never been picked off more than twice in any game. Mariota now has more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (8) this season.

Mularkey blamed the first pick on his quarterback with Mariota’s second pass sailing over Rishard Matthews’ head to a defender. On the second Giants Kareem Martin Jersey , Mularkey said rookie receiver Corey Davis could’ve helped Mariota out by taking a better angle at the ball.

Titans cornerback Adoree Jackson forced a fumble by Antonio Brown that the Steelers recovered late in the first half, and Mularkey noted linebacker Wesley Woodyard just missed what might’ve been an interception off Le’Veon Bell’s shoulder. Tight end Delanie Walker dropped a touchdown pass in the end zone four days after Matthews dropped a would-be touchdown.

The Steelers sacked Mariota five times , bringing the total to nine sacks allowed over the past two games. The Titans also had nine penalties for 65 yards, their worst performance since a 16-10 loss Oct. 8 at Miami.

Even with all the sloppy play, the Titans rallied from a 10-point deficit and pulled within 23-17 with 5:34 left in the third quarter before the Steelers reeled off 17 unanswered points.

”We felt like we had a chance in that environment Seahawks Cliff Avril Jersey ,” Mularkey said. ”Kept coming back, especially after a slow start, both sides really didn’t start off the way we wanted to. Being down 10-0, I’ve been on a lot of teams that that would have been enough to say, `That’s it.’ Our guys didn’t do that. They came back and made it a game all the way through until about five minutes to go in that third quarter.”

The Titans (6-4) now trail Jacksonville (6-3) in the AFC South. Tennessee wraps up the regular season hosting the Jaguars , who play winless Cleveland on Sunday.

Their bigger challenge is the Titans still have beaten only two teams with winning records. Their next four opponents have a combined record of 11-27, so Tennessee can only improve its record if not the resume. The Titans will visit Indianapolis on Nov. 26 where the Titans still are looking for their first win in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Wide receiver Eric Decker, who caught all three passes thrown to him, said the corrections are up to the players and coaches.

”We’ll figure that out,” Decker said. ”We’ll show you guys the results.”

Notes: Mularkey said S Kevin Byard hurt a shoulder and LB Brian Orakpo got leg whipped. The coach expects both to be OK and said he would know more Monday.

NASHVILLE Cheap Tyquan Lewis Jersey , Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Titans released cornerback Jason McCourty in April to avoid paying the veteran $7 million and to get younger in their secondary.

Now they get to see him again with McCourty proving he’s not done yet.

The Titans (3-3) visit the winless Browns in Cleveland, and McCourty already has three interceptions compared to none for his Tennessee replacements.

Article continues below ...
”When I left Tennessee, it wasn’t really about the money, it was more about the opportunity to play,” said McCourty, who had been a mainstay in Tennessee’s secondary since being a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.

”I knew if I came back I was going to be the fifth-string cornerback.

So McCourty, now 30 Authentic Rashaad Penny Jersey , believed he could still play football and decided to test his chances as a free agent for the first time in his career. His goal? To compete and be a team’s second or third cornerback.

McCourty has been a bright spot for the 0-6 Browns starting each game. He also has those three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown last week against Houston , two forced fumbles and 24 total tackles this season

”I’ve just been happy with myself,” McCourty said. ”I guess a little bit of it is proving to yourself that man, you can still play this game. You still are a good player.”

With McCourty gone, the Titans revamped the cornerback position in the offseason, signing Logan Ryan from New England Authentic Matt Adams Jersey , drafting Adoree’ Jackson in the first round and adding free agent Tye Smith as a backup to holdovers LeShaun Sims, Brice McCain and Kalan Reed. Of that group, Smith has the only interception.

McCourty said he is not bitter at the Titans for wanting to move on without him.

”I remember being a young player in Tennessee and talking to the vets there that I had, they always used to tell me at some point the game will humble you,” he said.

”It doesn’t matter how good you are, what you’ve done. At some point, someone is going to tell you either you’re not good enough Authentic Bud Norris Jersey , we don’t want you anymore. So, you know what’s to come and I think I just look back on it, just grateful for the eight years that I did have there.”

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has taken notice of McCourty’s play with the Browns.

”He’s made a bunch of plays on footballs, and he had a pick-6 last week. He’s been a veteran presence that helps that secondary out and has been a game-changer for them,” Mariota said.

Titans tight end Delanie Walker said his old teammate’s play jumps off the film when watching the Browns defense.

”J-Mac is an explosive player, and he is doing it over there. You see him all over the place. He shows up on the runs, the passes. I think he’s going to try to show up Cheap Ryan Jensen Jersey , especially going against us,” Walker said.
NOTES: The Titans held running back DeMarco Murray (hamstring) and linebackers Derrick Morgan (abdominal strain) and Brian Orakpo (rest) out of Wednesday’s practice. Receiver Corey Davis (hamstring) and safety Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) did not practice and have been out for weeks. Mariota (hamstring) practiced fully.

CHICAGO — Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky did not take long to understand the significance of his upcoming start against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.

It will mark the 196th meeting with Green Bay clinging to a 95-94-6 lead in the series.

“I’m starting to figure out it’s a pretty big deal Cheap Mason Rudolph Jersey ,” said Trubisky, a rookie out of North Carolina who will make his fifth career start and first against Green Bay. “No matter who our opponent is, we’re trying to be 1-0 each week. But I know this is a big rivalry for the fans and the city of Chicago, so I’m just going to go out and give it everything I’ve got. Hopefully, we come out on the good side of it.”

Article continues below ...
That has not been the case in recent seasons for the Bears, who have dropped three games in a row, seven of eight and 13 of 15 to the Packers. But the development of Trubisky, coupled with the absence of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (broken collarbone) , has brought new hope to the Windy City.

Chicago (3-5) has matched its win total from a season ago and has won two of its past three games. The Bears are 2-2 at home this season and are well-rested after a week off.

Meanwhile, Green Bay (4-4) is eager to change its narrative and reassert itself as a playoff contender. Since Rodgers went down, the Packers have lost three in a row and averaged only 14.7 points.

In place of Rodgers, Packers quarterback Brett Hundley has produced a lackluster 58.3 passer rating. He has passed for one touchdown and four interceptions.

Hundley, 24, is confident that he and his teammates on offense can improve. He leans on his own strengths instead of pressuring himself to replicate Rodgers’ style.

“When I’m out there, I’m myself,” Hundley said. “I never have and never will try to be Aaron Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , but I learned from Aaron. But at the end of the day, I’m still me.”

Rodgers’ injury is not the only one for Green Bay. The Packers will be without safety Morgan Burnett (groin) and veteran tackle Bryan Bulaga (torn ACL), among others, when they head south to Chicago. The team also released injured tight end Martellus Bennett this week, which means Richard Rodgers and Lance Kendricks will need to carry the load going forward at that position.

For Green Bay’s slump to end, a trio of talented wideouts will need to step up when it matters most, wide receiver Randall Cobb said. He was referring to himself, Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson.

“I think it’s big plays ,” Cobb said. “We always talk about it in the receiver room. The team goes through us. When we’re able to make those big plays, it provides a spark for this team, not only offensively but throughout the entire team. … It’s on our shoulders. I’m putting it on the three of us.”

Chicago has the NFL’s eighth-ranked defense and will challenge the Packers’ hopes to rack up points. Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks leads the team with seven sacks, and Leonard Floyd has five.

Meanwhile, Green Bay is No. 23 in total offense with an average of 310.1 yards per game.

On the opposite side of the ball, the Bears rank fourth-to-last in total offense with 287.6 yards per game. Green Bay has struggled on defense, too, ranking No. 25 with 357.4 yards allowed per contest.

The Packers have scored 22.6 points per game while giving up an average of 23.9. Chicago has scored 16.8 points while giving up 21.4.

Injuries also will affect Chicago in the rivalry game. Tight end Zach Miller is out for the season after a frightening leg injury against New Orleans that required emergency surgery and a lengthy hospital stay. Linebacker Danny Trevathan also could miss the game because of a calf strain.

One player who expects to make his Bears debut is wide receiver Dontrelle Inman Authentic Clive Walford Jersey , who was acquired Oct. 26 from the Los Angeles Chargers. Inman notched 58 catches for 810 yards and four touchdowns last season, and he dined with Trubisky before the off week to help the pair build chemistry.

“It’s the little things,” Inman said. “(It’s about) being in the right spots, him being able to trust me and other receivers to get the job done.”

CINCINNATI (AP) A federal appeals court has spiked an Ohio couple’s case against companies that distributed an erotic fiction book about a woman’s desire for New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling Tuesday upheld a lower court’s dismissal of the case against Adidas Gabriel Landeskog Jersey , Barnes & Noble Inc. and Smashwords filed by a couple referred to as John and Jane Roe.

The couple says an engagement photo that shows them embracing was pulled from their photographer’s website without their knowledge and used on the cover of ”A Gronking to Remember.” The book was self-published using the defendant companies’ online services by a male author writing under the pseudonym ”Lacey Noonan,” according to court records.

The couple’s lawsuit describes the 2014 book as raunchy and distasteful and says their privacy rights were violated.

The book began showing up in Gronkowski’s media appearances, including at the Super Bowl media day in 2015 and in a jocular reading he gave on ABC’s ”Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Court records indicate that the ”Gronking” author changed the cover at least twice Leighton Vander Esch Jersey Elite , first to remove images with the Patriots’ trademarks after the NFL club complained, and then again after hearing from the Roes. The couple sued in Miami County, Ohio Adidas Jeff Skinner Jersey , court in February 2015, and the case was then transferred to federal court.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Rose in Dayton ruled against the couple last year, saying the corporate defendants were book distributors broadly protected by the First Amendment because their self-publishing services were the ”next logical step after the photocopier.”

The three-judge appeals panel said the couple failed to show the companies were aware of any photo rights issue.

”We conclude that the plaintiffs have not offered any facts to support a finding of liability on the part of the corporate defendants Chris Herndon Super Bowl LI Jersey ,” Judge Alan E. Norris wrote in its opinion.

Messages were left Wednesday for the couple’s attorney.

SAN JOSE Adidas Patrik Laine Jersey , Calif. (AP) Calling it ”a lucky play,” Jamie Benn stole the puck from Tomas Hertl and scored the go-ahead goal with 3:06 left before tacking on an empty-netter for the hat trick in the Dallas Stars‘ 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

”It was just a read,” Benn said. ”I’ll take it.”

So will the Stars, who ended a seven-game road losing streak.

”We played our best third period in a long time,” coach Ken Hitchcock said.

Mike McKenna Authentic Jonathan Allen Jersey , who replaced an injured Kari Lehtonen, got the victory after stopping all 17 shots he faced. McKenna last played in the NHL for the Arizona Coyotes on Feb. 16, 2015.

”It’s fulfilling getting a win,” McKenna said. ”It was fun to be part of this win. It’s not anything I haven’t seen before. Sometimes you lean on your experience.”

Dallas’ Gemel Smith tied it at 2 with 5:17 left. Devon Shore won a battle along the boards and rushed the net, tapping it to Smith at the last second.

Logan Couture set a career high with his 33rd goal and Timo Meier scored No. 20 for the Sharks Authentic Ito Smith Jersey , who lost their fourth straight.

”You’re concerned any time you lose a lead,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. ”Again, we played good enough tonight to score four goals and we should have won. We didn’t, and we didn’t handle that as well as we could have in the third. For me, the big mistake was not putting them away when we had the chance Authentic Austin Romine Jersey , not the third period.”

Lehtonen left with an upper-body injury with 4:06 remaining in the first period. He took a puck to the facemask. Hitchcock said he should be OK for Friday’s game in Los Angeles. Lehtonen saved 12 of 14 shots.

Couture put the Sharks ahead 1-0 when he got a pass from Brent Burns and fired it into the net from long range midway through the first period.

Meier added to the lead six minutes later after chasing down a puck that had bounced off Lehtonen’s pads. He fired from the right side, finding a hole under Lehtonen’s glove.

”You don’t want to be on your heels,” Meier said. ”We were on our heels and you can’t do that late in the season. A thing like that can’t happen again.”

Benn made it 2-1 late in the second period, redirecting a centering pass from John Klingberg off Martin Jones‘ shoulder pad and into the net.

”After the second period we regrouped and refocused,” Benn said. ”We found a way to put together 20 good minutes and found a way to win.”

WASHINGTON (AP) The Philadelphia Flyers are already in playoff mode. That was enough to beat the spotty Washington Capitals.

Travis Konecny scored 27 seconds into overtime Wholesale Mike Remmers Jersey , and the surging Flyers beat the Capitals 2-1 on Sunday.

Michael Raffl also scored for Philadelphia, and Brian Elliott had 27 saves. The Flyers, who lost 10 consecutive games earlier in the season, have won three in a row and seven of eight to move into playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

Article continues below ...
”Coming in here and getting a win, it definitely says something about our character Wholesale Dante Pettis Jersey ,” Konecny said. ”There’s just that vibe in the locker room right now. We really want that playoff opportunity and we’re pushing for it.”

Konecny found space in the middle of the offensive zone and his shot deflected off Washington’s T.J. Oshie and past Braden Holtby for his eighth of the season.

Konecny also scored in Saturday’s 3-1 win against New Jersey. Washington began the day with 18 home wins, tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for the most in the NHL.

”We’re just finding ways to win hockey games,” Konecny said. ”It’s a hard road game coming in here and you know they rested yesterday. I don’t know, we’re just keeping things simple and we’re just trusting our abilities.”

Washington has dropped three in a row.

”You’re playing a Philly team that’s playing extremely well right now. They’re in playoff mode,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. ”There’s not a lot separating first (place) and eighth. Every game is going to be huge. It’s going to get ramped up here.”

Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-best 29th goal Adidas Brent Burns Jersey , but the Capitals came up empty on several viable scoring chances against Elliott.

”The chances were there. We created lots of chances, lots of opportunities,” Ovechkin said. ”We can give the goalie too (many) easy saves. We have to manage the puck better when we have opportunities.”

Elliott and Philadelphia’s defense certainly played a part in keeping Washington’s offense in check.

”Guys were boxing out in front and forcing those shots from the outside. It kind of gets you in a groove and I thought we did that well all night,” Elliott said.

Both teams scored in the second period.

Working from behind Washington’s net, Valtteri Filppula sent a deft pass to Raffl Authentic Vita Vea Jersey , whose shot from the left slot bounced off Holtby and into the net at 13:48.

Despite the loss, Washington sounded upbeat after some recent down performances. The Capitals stymied the Flyers on three power-play chances and did not allow many shots on goal. Holtby made 21 stops.

”I’m not too disappointed. I’m disappointed in the final outcome Wholesale Josh Allen Jersey , but I’m not disappointed in the game,” Trotz said. ”There’s a lot to like in our game.”
